Understanding Healthy vs. Unhealthy vs. Abusive Relationships

Relationships whether family, friends, co-workers or a significant other are on a spectrum ranging from healthy to unhealthy to abusive.  At the center of healthy relationships is mutual respect and equality.  For unhealthy and abusive relationships, power and control are at the center and imbalanced.  Your and others’ safety, feelings and boundaries need to be respected.  See Resources page for supports if you are in an abusive relationship or contact the Center for Health & Counseling Services at (815) 836-5455 if you would like to meet with a counselor.
