Susan Y. Swart, EdD, MS, RN, CAE
Executive Director, ANA-Illinois & Illinois Nurses Foundation
Dr. Swart is currently serving her second term as the Vice President of ANA and is the chair of the ANA-PAC. She is an accomplished nurse leader with 25 years of nursing and 16 years of nursing regulation experience. She is the CEO of SYS Consulting Solutions, Inc. and has served as the Executive Director for ANA-Illinois, and the Illinois Nurses Foundation since 2008 and for the Illinois Society for Advanced Practice Registered Nursing since 2013.
Dr. Swart received her doctorate from Olivet Nazarene University in Ethical Leadership in 2018. She routinely presents and consults on scope of practice issues, ethics, nursing regulation, and public policy development. She is known for her coalition-building skills, innovative leadership approaches and building successful partnerships to advance the nursing profession.
Dr. Swart believes that as a licensed registered nurse, she has a professional responsibility to actively engage in and to shape the profession, and improve healthcare for all people. It is her life’s mission to foster nurse empowerment and help ensure that nurses are at the table whenever health policy discussions are occurring.
The presentation will delve into the reasons for the nursing shortage and the current state of the nursing workforce and nursing education. We will explore what role RNs and APRNs play in leading collaboration between practice and nursing education. How can they leverage their expertise to develop innovative solutions to address healthcare delivery, a safe work environment, health equity, diversity, and inclusion?
