Lewis Women's Cross Country Wins Third Straight GLVC Crown; Sixth Overall

The Lewis University women's cross country team recorded its third straight Great Lakes Valley Conference women's cross country title and sixth overall at the UIS Cross Country Course Saturday (Oct. 26). Hannah Smrcka (Corry, Penn./Seton Hill) also became the women's individual champion after recording a time of 20:53 in the 6k, which won her GLVC Women's Runner of the Year.The Flyers are the first GLVC school to record a perfect score in the championship meet after having the top seven finishers as well as nine in the top 10. Lewis had total nine runners receive All-GLVC honors.Lewis Women's Cross Country Head Coach James Kearney was also awarded GLVC Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year for the third consecutive season.

Caroline Pacer-Ryan (Wheaton, IL/West Chicago) finished in second place after crossing the finish line with a time of 21:02.Sarah May (Elmhurst, Ill./Grand Valley State) was the next finisher for the Flyers with a third place performance after crossing the finish line at 21:09. Abbey Kozak (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) crossed the finish line in fourth place for the Flyers, posting a time of 21:12. Josephine Bober (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) finished in fifth, recording a time of 21:15, while Anna Kozak (Lockport, IL/Lockport Township) placed sixth overall with a time of 21:31.05Kate Guderjan (Frankfort, Ill./Lincolnway East) was right behind Kozak in seventh place after posting the same time as her teammate but eight tenths of a second behind at 21:31.13. Naylah Allen (Oswego, Ill./Oswego East) was the next placer for Lewis, picking up a ninth place finish with a time of 21:36.Mary Edwards (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) rounded out the top 10 for Lewis, crossing the finish line at 21:39.UP NEXTLewis will be back in action Saturday, November 9 for the NCAA DII Women's Cross Country Midwest Regionals hosted at Lewis University.
