Dr. Mike McFerron Earns Two Global Music Awards

Published: September 26, 2024.

Lewis University Music Professor and Chair Dr. Mike McFerron recently received two silver medals in the Global Music Awards’ Composer and New Release categories.

The Global Music Awards, also known as music’s golden seal of approval, recognizes musical artists on an international scale who have contributed substantial works.

McFerron, a composer-in-residence at Lewis University, was honored for his “Sonata No. 2” recording. Written in 2022, it is a dramatic composition expressing the story of the inexplicable loss of the Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting child victims.

"Sonata No. 2” is part of an album titled “Midwest Piano Sonatas” by pianist Kristín Jónína Taylor, who commissioned and premiered the sonata.
