Lewis University Students Present Research at ACCA Symposium

Lewis University students studying physical, social and behavioral, and life sciences presented work at the 56th annual Associated Colleges of the Chicago Area Student Symposium on April 13 at Lewis University in Romeoville.
The following life sciences students presented:
- Andrew Murphy presented “Conductive Functionalized Polysaccharide Chains for Degradation of Model Pollutants.”
- Kiersten Smith presented “Effects of depleting plasminogen as a potential therapeutic for Alzheimer's disease using an antisense oligonucleotide.”
- Ezra Samson presented “Exon Skipping as a therapeutic approach to SCA3
- Anasemon Botros presented Machado Joseph Disease.”
- Ava Artz presented “Use of antisense oligonucleotides to induce ATXN3 exon skipping as a potential therapeutic SCA3.”
- Rebecca Rozhon presented “Copper Chelation as an Alzheimer's Therapeutic in C. elegans.”
The following physical science students presented:
- Andre Jones presented “Design of Novel Biopolymer Anodes to Enhance Electron Transport in Microbial Fuel Cell System.”
- Steven Roberts presented “Effect of Cleaning Chemistry Macroenvironment on Cu Post-CMP.”
- Ulysses Flores presented “Healing the Wound: Synthesis and Characterization of Nanoparticle Loaded Hydrogels for Chronic Wound Healing Materials.”
- Tyler Ranieri and Ruben Franchini presented “Improving Measurements of PM2.5 Emissions for Diesel Engines‰ÛÜ.”
- Jadyn Dominguez presented “Synthesis and Characterization of Antimicrobial Nanoparticles Infused in Biopolymeric Nanocomposite Systems for Antimicrobial Applications.”
Emilia Nykaza, a social and behavioral science student, presented “Serious or Sarcasm? Examining the influence of emojis on perceived message tone in text messaging and face-to-face communication.”
The Associated Colleges of the Chicago Area (ACCA) symposium allowed students to present their research to their peers studying In the Chicago area. ACCA is a consortium of 14 private liberal arts colleges offering educational experiences that help students organize and share their knowledge and discoveries.
