ISBE Reauthorizes Lewis Education Programs as Exemplary

Illinois State Board of Education Reauthorizes Lewis University Education Programs as Exemplary

All 16 of Lewis University’s Education Programs were recently reauthorized by the Illinois State Board of Education. Nearly all Lewis University Education programs were designated as Exemplary, which is the best status in the Illinois Educator Preparations Profile

The IEPP shows the ISBE evaluations of education programs by their ability to recruit and train effective educators. Also, it considers a program’s candidate selection and completion, knowledge and skills for teaching, performance as classroom teachers, and contribution to state needs.  

The following Lewis University Education programs received the 2023 designation of Exemplary and have been reauthorized. 

  • Early Childhood Special Education 
  • Elementary Education 
  • English Language Arts 
  • General Science (Middle Grade) 
  • Language Arts (Middle Grade) 
  • Learning Behavior Specialist I (LBS I) 
  • Mathematics 
  • Mathematics (Middle Grade) 
  • Reading Specialist 
  • Science – Biology 
  • Science – Chemistry 
  • Science – Physics 
  • Social Science (Middle Grade) 
  • Social Science – Psychology 
  • World Language – Spanish 

The Social Science – History program has been reauthorized with the Commendable designation. 

Programs that receive Exemplary and Commendable designations can make program changes autonomously without full Illinois State Board of Education oversight.
