Commencement Ceremonies Honor Over 1,000 Students

Over 1,000 Students Honored at Lewis University December Commencement Ceremonies

Lewis University celebrated December Commencement ceremonies for more than 1,000 students December 15-16 on the university’s campus in Romeoville.  

The celebration began Friday, with the Graduate Degree Ceremony for the College of Aviation, Science, and Technology and the College of Nursing and Health Sciences, which honors students receiving certificates of advanced study and master’s degrees, as well as graduates of adult accelerated programs. Richard Ellis and Belinda Lee Rincones received Doctor of Nursing Practice degrees

The Morning Graduate Degree Ceremony for the College of Business and the College of Education and Social Sciences, honors students receiving doctoral degrees, certificates of advanced study, and master’s degrees, as well as graduates of adult accelerated programs. Michael Patrick Bulfin, Milton Bradley Harmon, Elizabeth Ann Protich, Latricia Denise Walker earned Doctor of Education degrees

The Afternoon Undergraduate Degree Ceremony honors College of Business, College Education and Social Sciences as well as College of Humanities, Fine Arts and Communications degree recipients. Catherine Fiori offered the Lasallian Address, sharing insights on the University Mission values of Knowledge and Association. Fiori earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing. 

Catholic educator and Lasallian leader James Segredo ’77, B.A., M.Ed., received an honorary doctorate degree and addressed the graduates. After earning a bachelor’s degree from Lewis University, majoring in criminal justice, social studies, and secondary education, the St. Rita High School alumnus spent 46 years of supporting students and leading colleagues both during the school day and after-school programs. The Illinois Board of Education’s “Those Who Excel” Merit Award recipient served at Chicago’s St. Rita High School, and then at Montini Catholic, a co-educational, Lasallian, college-preparatory high school, located in Lombard, Illinois.  

The Evening Undergraduate Degree Ceremony honors the College of Aviation, Science, and Technology, as well as the College of Nursing and Health Sciences degree recipients. Samaras offered the Lasallian Address, sharing insights on the University Mission values of Knowledge and Association. Also, during the ceremony, Christopher MacDougall was recognized with the Father Aquinas Colgan Award for his transformation while earning a bachelor’s degree in biology
