Prayers and Sympathy for the Loss of Dr. James Krejci

Published: August 30, 2023.

It is with great sadness that I write that Lewis University was notified of the death of a beloved colleague, Dr. James Krejci. The professor of Business Administration passed away Tuesday, August 29.

Lewis University extends our deepest sympathy and prayerful consolation to the family and friends of James Krejci.

The altruistic mentor taught for 30 years at Lewis University, most of them as an adjunct while working as either Vice President of Operations or Vice President of Quality in Industry. The corporate certified Black Belt in Six Sigma served as chair of Business Administration and Marketing in the College of Business from 2019-2023.

The inspirational educator was honored for his teaching excellence several times by Lewis University. In May, he received the 2023 Faculty of the Year Award from Lewis University's College of Business, a student-nominated award.

In 2017, he received the De La Salle Medallion for Service Learning Excellence. The Hickory Hills resident taught Strategic Management, a capstone course in the undergraduate Business Administration program, in spring 2016 for the first time as a service learning course. He originally partnered with the Warren-Sharpe Community Center and their social enterprise, the Green Sprout Urban Farm. His partnerships quickly expanded to assist others, such as Catholic Charities.

He earned his DBA from Nova Southeastern in 1993 and completed an MBA from St. Xavier University in 1988. The lifelong student started his full-time working career in 1973 and didn’t miss a semester of school until he received his doctorate 20 years later.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 31 at Hills Funeral Home, Ltd., 10201 S. Roberts Road, Palos Hills, IL 60465.  The funeral will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 1 as a Chapel Service at the funeral home. Interment Resurrection Cemetery, 7201 Archer, Justice, IL.
