24-Hour Holiday Music Returns to WLRA
Published: November 21, 2022.
Listen to holiday music 24 hours a day, seven days a week the day after Thanksgiving Day through January 1 on WLRA-FM. Listeners can tune into the student-run radio station via radio at 88.1 FM, online at www.lewisu.edu/wlra, the apps iTunes and Google Play and iHeartRadio.
The switch to all Christmas music is part of the annual “Christmas Memories for You and Your Family,” a benefit broadcast for the United Way of Will County. Instead of commercials, WLRA airs brief public service announcements about United Way agencies in Will County. The local, not-for-profit organization raises money to support local human care services provided by local, not-for-profit agencies.
The WLRA Christmas programming will feature sacred, traditional, contemporary and new hits for people of all tastes and ages. The Christmas programming as well as the University’s Andrew Center of Electronic Media are made possible by a grant from the Aileen S. Andrew Foundation.
“It’s our Christmas gift to the community. Our students are honored to use their skills in the radio industry to help others in the various United Way programs in a year that it is so desperately needed,” John Carey, director of the Andrew Center of Electronic Media, commented.
WLRA’s regular programming includes news and sports coverage, coverage of Lewis University events, and a wide variety of music. Students and faculty involved with WLRA are committed to community service and have produced several marathon broadcasts to benefit United Way of Will County, children’s hospitals and many others.
