Flyers Finish Second At GLVC Track And Field Championships

Lewis University's men's track and field team finished second with 138 points at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday and Saturday at Plaster Stadium in Bolivar, Mo.
The Flyers scored 24 points in the triple jump as they went 1-2-3 in the event. Keegan Zack (Watseka, Ill./Watseka Community) won the event with a leap of 14.93 meters (48'11.75"), Zach Olenek (Algonquin, Ill./St. Edward Central Catholic) was second with a jump of 14.39 meters (47'2.5") and Will DeBolt (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) took third with a leap of 14.24 meters (46'8.75").
Justin Rivers (Bolingbrook, IL/) was the runner-up in the high jump as he cleared the bar at a height of 1.95 meters (6'4.75").
Lewis' 4x400 meter relay team of Connor Wagner (Elgin, Ill./Burlington Central), Reese Kocanda (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South), DeBolt and Jacoby Jones (Romeoville, Ill./Romeoville) won the event with a time of 3:16.02. Their time was two seconds faster than their previous best set last weekend at the Drake Relays.
The 4x100 relay team of Kocanda, DeBolt, Andrew Mykulanych (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Buffalo Grove) and Evangelos Vassilakis (Lockport, IL/Lockport Township HS) was the runner-up in the event with a time of 41.53 seconds.
Wagner won the title in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.75 seconds and was fifth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 55.03 seconds.
Vassilakis finished third in the 100 meters in a time of 10.68 seconds.
Jones took seventh in the 400 meters in a time of 49.35 seconds.
Dan Ford (Romeoville, Ill./Romeoville) and AJ Smith (Floyds Knobs, Ind./Silver Creek) were fifth and seventh in the 800 meters with times of 1:53.69 and 1:56.05 respectively.
The Flyers scored 13 points in the 5,000 meters with Anthony Farmer (Elgin, Ill./Burlington Central) finishing third while Garrett White (Crestwood, IL) was fourth and Zach Hoover (Crown Point, IN/St. Francis University) came in seventh. Farmer finished at 14:52.18, White came in at 14:56.19 and Hoover touched the line at 15:02.90.
Gyasi Boisson (Trinidad and Tobago/) finished eighth in the shot put with a heave of 14.37 meters (47'1.75").
Zyaire Shermon (/) was Lewis' team nominee for the GLVC's James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award.
Lewis returns to the track next Saturday as they travel down the road to Joliet to compete in the St. Francis Last Chance Meet at Joliet Memorial Stadium.
