COVID-19 Update - Booster & Testing Requirements, Event Changes

Published: January 13, 2022.

The first week of classes is almost complete. Your efforts in mitigating COVID-19 are appreciated and important for us to have a healthy semester on campus. Please stay home if you are experiencing symptoms, whether you are vaccinated or not, and contact our Lewis University COVID-19 Hotline Team.

Have you done these COVID-19 mitigation requirements yet?

Please note that eligible students and employees are required to submit a booster record to the LewisU App by March 14, 2022.

A 50-person indoor gathering limit is in effect for campus events through Monday, January 31. Temporary athletic event mitigations during this time include allowing only pre-approved home spectators for competitions in Neil Carey Arena. Visit lewisflyers.com for more information. All games are available to watch live and for free on the GLVC Sports Network at www.glvcsn.com/lewis.

COVID-19 VACCINATION REQUIREMENT & OPPORTUNITIES

All students and employees attending classes or activities on campus must submit their COVID-19 vaccination status on the LewisU App or online at the link for STUDENTS and FACULTY & STAFF. This includes those partially or fully vaccinated as well as those requesting an exemption to vaccination. Vaccine documentation upload needs to be a photo, such as a jpg file, not a PDF.

Students who have not submitted their vaccination status or do not participate in weekly testing will be subject to a referral to the Student Conduct Process, administrative fines, restriction from class or campus, or placed on a registration hold.

BOOSTER REQUIREMENT

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is recommending those who are at least 18 years old receive a COVID-19 booster at the appropriate time (at least five months after completing the primary COVID-19 vaccination series of Pfizer or Moderna, and at least two months after Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen).

Lewis University requires that eligible students and employees have a booster by March 14, 2022. Please submit your proof that you have received a booster on the LewisU App.

Two COVID-19 Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine booster clinics are scheduled to be held for students, faculty, and staff in the Flight Deck in St. Charles Borromeo on our Romeoville Campus. Please bring a copy of your vaccine record.

  • 1:00 p.m.- 5:00 p.m. – Thursday, January 13
  • Noon – 4:00 p.m. – Tuesday, January 18

Register for the booster shots at Pfizer-BioNTech (https://events.juvare.com/IL-IDPH/yjoto/), Moderna (https://events.juvare.com/IL-IDPH/pejdy/), and Johnson & Johnson (https://events.juvare.com/IL-IDPH/ejtfw/).

Visit www.vaccines.gov/ or willcountyhealth.org/ to schedule an appointment to receive a booster off campus.

COVID-19 TESTING REQUIREMENT & OPPORTUNITIES

We continue to align our mitigation efforts with Illinois mandates, including Executive Order 2021-22, which calls for weekly testing of unvaccinated students and employees. They should submit their weekly PCR COVID-19 test results to the LewisU App BEFORE 6:00 p.m. on Thursday of each week.

All resident students, regardless of their vaccination status, are required to submit a COVID-19 once a week through Friday, January 28. A negative PCR test result needs to be submitted on the LewisU App. Tests must be PCR-type, which often take 24-72 hours to obtain results. Self-administered, at-home tests are not accepted. Result documentation must include a visible patient name, date of test collection, type of test and result.

Times and dates for on-campus testing for the remainder of this week are available. Visit the Lucid Laboratory Services website to register for these additional PCR COVID-19 testing in Memorial Hall on our Romeoville campus.

  • Thursday, January 13, 2022: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
  • Friday, January 14, 2022: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Beginning Tuesday, January 18, PCR COVID-19 testing for Lewis University students, faculty, and staff is available 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Monday-Friday in Memorial Hall on our Romeoville Campus. There are no out-of-pocket costs with insurance or use of federal programs for the uninsured. Visit the Lucid Laboratory Services website to register for a test. Walk-ins will be accepted.

Visit NACCHO  to find the website for a nearby health department website that has testing locations and times. For example, the state site, dph.illinois.gov/testing or local county, Will County Health Department website list sites in the area including the Shield Illinois sites that offer saliva testing.

ADDITIONAL COVID-19 MITIGATIONS

Face coverings are required to be worn in public indoor spaces by all individualsregardless of their vaccination status. This includes classrooms, meetings, and common areas of residence halls. Recent health official recommendations are that disposable/medical/surgical masks are preferred over cloth face coverings.

ALL VISITORS need to submit a Visitor Health Screening before arriving on campus.

The LewisU App is a helpful tool for students, faculty, and staff for a variety of mandatory processes as well as accessing information and resources.

  • Submit your vaccination status (including your booster), apply for an exemption, or change your status.
  • Report COVID-19 symptoms or positive test, regardless of vaccination status.
  • Submit a daily COVID-19 Symptom Screening. Unvaccinated individuals are required to submit before arriving on campus each day. All unvaccinated resident students are required to submit the screening on the LewisU App each day.
  • Connect with the Lewis University COVID-19 Hotline Team.

If you have a close exposure to someone who has COVID-19 symptoms or tests positive, you should get tested (a PCR test recommended) on days 5-7 after the exposure, regardless of your vaccination status.

Contact your healthcare provider and report symptoms to the Lewis University COVID-19 Hotline Team using the LewisU App COVID-19 Symptom Screening tile. Our Hotline Team is available through the LewisU App or covidhotline@lewisu.edu every day.
