Lewis’ Jamie Poppen Named to CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team

Lewis University senior libero Jamie Poppen (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway West) was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Division II Volleyball Third Team on Tuesday (July 13), as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). She becomes the second player in program history to be named to the Academic All-America joining Jillian Carlberg in 2012 and is the 53rd player in school history to earn the honor.

Poppen, an exercise science and movement major with a 3.97 cumulative GPA thanks to a 4.00 mark this year, was the Great Lakes Valley Conference's Scholar-Athlete of the Year for women's volleyball in the Spring 2021 season, the GLVC's Libero of the Year this past spring and was also named First Team All-GLVC and was a three-time GLVC Defensive Player of the Week.

She recorded 11 matches with at least 20 digs this past season including a career-high 31 digs against Southern Indiana on April 10. Poppen had a season-high 10 assists in a win over Quincy on March 6 and matched that with 10 assists against USI on April 10.

She led the team and was second in the conference in digs averaging 6.05 digs per set while her total of 369 digs was third best in the league. Poppen had a reception percentage of .955 and was second on the team with 15 service aces. She also recorded 84 assists during the season. Poppen was named to the Academic All-GLVC squad and was a recipient of the Br. Gaffney Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Award.

The Flyers open their Fall 2021 season on Friday, Sept. 3 against Eckerd at 2 p.m. (CDT) at the Flagler Saints Invitational in St. Augustine, Fla.
