COVID-19 Update - Phase 5 Changes

Published: June 10, 2021.

Tomorrow, the State of Illinois is expected to enter Restore Illinois Phase 5, which allows most businesses and organizations to resume normal operations with new safety guidelines and procedures. Thank you for your efforts to get us to this point in the pandemic. Reported COVID-19 cases are down, vaccinations are widely distributed, and hospitalization numbers are manageable.

As part of our community’s ongoing COVID-19 mitigation measures, all Lewis University students, faculty, and staff are required to submit their COVID-19 vaccination records prior to the start of the Fall 2021 semester.

Students, faculty, and staff can report vaccination status, request an exemption, and engage with university support by reporting their COVID-19 vaccination status through the LewisU App. The tile on the App is titled, “COVID-19 Vaccination Status.” Students who are unable to access the App, can use this link for their submission, whereas faculty and staff can use this link. All information submitted will be kept confidential.

Our vaccine requirement, lifting of governmental restrictions, and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidance for institutions of higher education, enables Lewis University to relax some of the current mitigation measures in place on campus beginning Friday, June 11.

Face coverings

In general, our community understands the benefits of wearing face coverings. We encourage and support all who choose to wear a face covering to continue to do so.

However, face coverings are no longer required to be worn when outdoors while on university property.

In addition, for those who have submitted their fully vaccinated status to the LewisU App, face coverings will not be required indoors as well.

If you have not submitted your vaccination status to Lewis University or have not been fully vaccinated, you are still required to wear face coverings when indoors.

Public health guidance still recommends social distancing so face coverings may still be required of all individuals attending an event on campus or participating in a university activity in certain circumstances. When face coverings are required, signs will be posted and/or participants will be notified of the requirement.

Daily COVID-19 Symptom Screenings on LewisU App

Daily COVID-19 symptom screening reporting on the LewisU App is no longer necessary for those who have submitted their fully vaccinated status to Lewis University.

Unvaccinated individuals are still required to submit mandatory COVID-19 symptom screening on the LewisU App before arriving on campus each day. All unvaccinated resident students are required to submit the screening on the LewisU App each day.

If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms or receive a positive test result, regardless of your vaccination status, you must report them to the Lewis University COVID-19 Hotline Team through the LewisU App, 815-588-7000 or covidhotline@lewisu.edu.

Visitor Questionnaire

All visitors, including contractors, need to complete the Lewis University Visitor Health Screening Form before arriving on campus. Visitors, who are not fully vaccinated, must wear a face covering.

Travel

There are still positive cases present in our home communities as well as travel destinations. Lewis University still recommends that students and employees follow current CDC guidance on travel.

Events and Meetings

All visitors attending in-person events need to complete the Lewis University Visitor Health Screening Form before arriving on campus.

Unless otherwise notified, face coverings are not required to be worn during outside events. During indoor events, face coverings are not necessary to be worn by those who are fully vaccinated. Those who are not fully vaccinated must wear a face covering.

Social Distancing

Health guidance still recommends distancing when possible. Our university will continue to plan classes and activities with recommended social distancing standards being implemented to the best of our ability. All are encouraged to maintain distance from others when possible.

Symptoms and Positive Test Results Reporting

While these changes to our mitigation efforts on campus are significant steps to returning to regular activities, please be aware that the COVID-19 pandemic is not over. If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms or receive a positive test result, regardless of your vaccination status, you must report them to the Lewis University COVID-19 Hotline Team through the LewisU App, 815-588-7000 or covidhotline@lewisu.edu.

Thank you for doing your part to reduce the impact of COVID-19 on our community.
