COVID-19 Update - Campus Life and Support after Thanksgiving

Published: October 15, 2020.

As we are finishing the seventh week of the Fall Semester, students are preparing for midterms in their 16-week courses and finals in their 8-week courses. Iím so grateful that for the most part we are able to focus on academics, and we are not in the midst of major disruption due to COVID-19.

Your vigilance in living the Flyers Promise has contributed greatly to our ability to continue with our current hybrid model. Students, faculty and staff are using the LewisU App to conduct daily COVID-19 symptom screenings, reporting test results to the COVID-19 Hotline and following CDC guidance, such as wearing a face covering, washing hands and remaining physically distant from others.

Campus Life and Support after Thanksgiving

While all classes will be online after the Thanksgiving break, our Romeoville campus will remain vibrant with activities and support.

Academic Support

Academic support services will remain open to all students with current safety measures in place. Online peer-to-peer tutoring, Writing Center peer tutoring, academic coaching and advising, Speech & Presentation Lab peer support, and Blackboard support are just a few examples of services available. Virtual walk-in support every Wednesday and Saturday is also available at†Academic Support.

The Library currently offers online chat, live, online research consultations, 24-hour access to all digital materials, physical material borrowing, and a socially-distanced physical space for those students that need access to computers, printers or a quiet place to study.†

On-campus study spaces are available for reservations through the LewisU App.†

As always, academic support services will be enhanced during the last week of classes and final exam week as part of our Super Study online and in-person activities.

Technology Support

The Student Technology Academic Resources (STAR) Program continues to have laptop computers and Wi-Fi hotspots available for loan to students who are in need of these resources.†Students who would like to be considered for this program should complete the application form available at†

Student Activities

Activities that support the mind, body and spirit of our students will be offered online and in-person. The Lewis University Shuttle Bus will continue to provide transportation to local businesses.

Student Housing

Our Residence Life staff are currently inviting all current residents to sign up to live on campus November 24-December 18. Residents who would like to stay must complete the Sign Up for Housing After Thanksgiving Break form. Residents who complete this form and elect to continue in the residence halls will receive additional room and board charges on their student accounts for the remainder of the semester.

Dining services will continue to be offered with safety protocols in place.

The pandemic has changed our lives in myriad ways since March, yet our community has risen to the challenges. Thank you for your efforts and continued diligence.

Dr. Christopher Sindt
