COVID-19 Update - Use the LewisU App

Published: August 27, 2020.

The campus is filling with resident students and we eagerly await the beginning of the Fall Semester on Monday, August 31. As we are all aware, there are some additional preparations that everyone needs before the semester begins.

Here’s a quick checklist for our students, faculty, and staff.

Sign the Flyers Promise & Student Acknowledgement Form.  This is our community’s promise to each other that we will work together to keep each other healthy and safe while also being respectful to each other.

Download the “LewisU” App. Beginning Monday, August 31, students, faculty, and staff will be able to use the app for a variety of mandatory processes described below. Visit to access the App.

o   Submit COVID-19 Symptom Screening. (Requirements are daily for resident students and employees before arriving on campus for the day.

o   Report a Positive COVID-19 Test Result. The Lewis University COVID-19 Hotline is still available at 815-588-7000 or

o   Check-In for Face-to-Face Class. All students are required to use the LewisU App’s QR code to register their presence for contact tracing purposes.

o   Reserve an Indoor Study Space. Several indoor areas are available on a reservation basis for students to use if needed, such as a place to log in to an online class after or before attending a face-to-face class.  Use this link to reserve a study space.  Make sure you create an account and select “Fall 2020 Study Room” from the dropdown menu at the top of the website.  There will also be a tile on the LewisU app that will link to the reservation system.

Wear a Face Covering. If you need an additional cloth face covering while on campus, you can receive one at several locations. Designated areas include:

  • College of Education and Social Sciences Dean’s Office in Benilde Hall
  • College of Business Dean’s Office in St. Charles Borromeo
  • College of Humanities, Fine Arts and Communications Dean’s Office in De La Salle Hall
  • College of Nursing and Health Sciences Dean’s Office in South Hall
  • College of Aviation, Science and Technology Dean’s Office in Academic Building
  • Library in Brother Paul French, FSC Learning Resource Center
  • Student Recreation and Fitness Center

Check Your Class Schedule. Some locations have been changed due to more restrictive health measures enacted by the State of Illinois. Please note that some classes may have been recently changed to be held outside or online.

Our model of class delivery was designed with the flexibility to account for the enhanced health measures that have been implemented countywide in recent days. We are adjusting appropriately as recommended by the Will County Health Department and following their guidance as well as that of the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control.

Through our close collaboration with the Will County Health Department, we served today as a COVID-19 testing site for students, faculty, and staff with potential or expected closer contact due to work role or participation in group activities. A limited number of tests were offered today and those who were tested will receive their results directly from the Will County Health Department. Future testing dates are scheduled for the Romeoville campus. More information will be provided as it becomes available.

Lastly, if anyone takes a brief look around our university community this week, they will easily see that our Lasallian Mission is strong in its commitment to finding innovative ways to educate our students as they overcome the challenges of the day. Thank you for uniting in incredible ways to make this semester enriching and academically successful.

Dr. Christopher Sindt
