Face Covering Policy Update

Published: July 13, 2020.

We continue to have a busy summer making preparations for the fall 2020 semester. I look forward to our return to a range of in-person class meetings with enhanced health measures in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

One of these measures will be the range of now-familiar community care expectations, such as frequent hand-washing, physical distancing, and the use of face coverings.  Our community expectations and the policies are aligned with guidelines provided by the CDC, the Illinois Department of Public Health, and the Illinois Board of Higher Education, and they are aligned with our mission values.  We are a community that cares about each other, and we recognize that our actions make an impact on others.

Face Coverings Policy

A face covering is required for everyone who enters a Lewis University campus and should be worn in classrooms, offices, laboratories, hallways, and common spaces.  Face coverings can be removed in closed offices when an employee is working alone, in designated dining areas, and outdoors with appropriate physical distancing.

Cloth face coverings should cover the nose and mouth, fit snugly, but not restrict breathing. Everyone is expected to provide their own face covering. A limited supply of face coverings will be provided to students and employees and will be available for those who are unable to provide their own or forget to bring one.

If you have specific circumstances that you believe will prevent you from complying with this policy, please contact:

As we countdown the weeks to the start of the year, please look for more updates from me on the steps we are taking to make the Lewis campus safe and healthy for all, and please visit the web site for daily updates to the Fall 2020 Campus Plan.
