Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) - March 22 Update

Published: March 22, 2020.

This week begins like no other in our university’s history. In an effort to keep our students, faculty and staff healthy, all of our classes will be taught online this week. Please remember that although classes are not occurring on our campuses, we remain steadfast in our commitment to provide a quality education to our students.

Regularly Scheduled Online Classes Began Last Week

Last week, originally scheduled online classes began as planned. During these turbulent times, that was a feat in itself as so many other things around us were changing. Every person has been impacted in some way by the global COVID-19 pandemic and we appreciate the resilience of our students, faculty and staff to continue achieving our academic Mission.

Face-To-Face Classes Transition Online This Week

We understand this transition from face-to-face instruction will be challenging. Students, just as we hope that you have patience and understanding with our faculty during this time, we promise to extend the same understanding and support to you. If you are experiencing challenges during this transition, please reach out to the Center for Academic Success and Enrichment (CASE) for assistance.

All Spring 2020 Courses Eligible for Pass/Fail Option

In light of the extraordinary circumstances of this Spring 2020 term, all undergraduate and graduate 16-week courses, regardless of prior status, are now eligible for Pass/Fail grading. Information on how students can change their course’s grading status will be shared as it becomes available. For general questions regarding the Pass/Fail option, contact the Office of the Registrar at  or call 815-836-5133.

Withdrawal Date is Extended

The withdrawal deadline for spring 2020 16-week courses has been extended from March 20 to April 17, 2020.  Students considering withdrawing from a course are encouraged to contact their Academic Advisor and Financial Aid Counselor prior to withdrawing to discuss the effects a withdrawal may have upon their degree completion plan and current/future financial aid eligibility.

University Offices are Open Online and by Phone

Due to the State of Illinois’ Stay at Home order, we will operate as a virtual campus until at least April 7. We had hoped to provide some student support services on the Romeoville campus, such as a computer lab for those without access, library services, and test accommodations; however, we will have to discontinue those in-person services until it is deemed appropriate to reopen. Also, the Lewis University Bookstore will remain closed until at least April 7.  Visit the Business Hours section of the COVID-19 webpage for more information on how to access our University Offices virtually.

There are a limited number of employees still working on campus to support resident students who needed to remain during this time. Dining services will be exclusively an order online and to-go format. The Lewis University Police Department will continue its operations on campus.

Registration for Summer 2020 Begins Tomorrow

Registration for our online Summer term begins as scheduled tomorrow, March 23. Registration for Fall 2020 semester begins Monday, March 30. Refer to the online course schedule for registration information.

In the last two weeks, I have seen extraordinary work and inspired creativity by our students, faculty, and staff as we make adjustments to protect the health of our community. Thank you for your resilience, patience and understanding during these unprecedented times. The entire Leadership Team has confidence that our university will continue to work together in association to stay the course and make these concluding weeks of our semester successful.

Dr. Christopher Sindt
