CDC Suggests Preparing for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

Published: February 27, 2020.

As you may be aware, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is asking Americans to prepare for a Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak in the United States.

Since January, Lewis University has been collaborating with the Will County Health Department and Illinois Department of Public Health to monitor and provide guidance to the university about the 2019 Novel (New) Coronavirus. For the most up-to-date information about the virus, please visit the website of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, Illinois Department of Public Health or Will County Health Department.

Let’s all work together to keep our community healthy. As with any respiratory virus, the CDC says you can protect yourself and others by taking common sense actions:

• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.

• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

• Cover your cough or sneeze with a disposable tissue.

• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

If you are sick, please stay home. If you need further medical guidance, contact your primary healthcare provider.

Employees that must stay home, please communicate with your supervisor. Please contact Human Resources if you have any further concerns.
