Lewis University Artists Honored at the Presidentís 11th Annual Art Show

Artwork by Lewis University students and alumni is currently on display in the Presidentís Eleventh Annual Art Exhibition at the Brent and Jean Wadsworth Family Gallery, located on the universityís main campus in Romeoville. The exhibit, free and available to the public, will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily until April 26.

This annual exhibition highlights the top artwork from Lewis University students and alumni. The show is hosted by the Department of Art and Design and sponsored by Dr. David Livingston, president of Lewis University.

Faculty and staff from the Department of Art and Design selected the 58 pieces of 103 submissions to be exhibited in the gallery. This yearís exhibit displays pieces of artwork consisting of paintings, drawings, photography, graphic design, sculpture, and mixed media.

Eleven students received a total of $1,000 in awards for their exhibits in the show and will be honored at the Reception/Award Ceremony from 7-9 p.m. April 25 in the Brent and Jean Wadsworth Family Gallery.

Rachel Fosler of Lynwood took first place for "The Egg King Reaches Out," eggshell and wax. Nate Stratton of Plainfield earned second place for "My Friend, Eric," oil on panel, and Shannon Washburn of Lockport placed third for "Seeking Solace," charcoal. Winning Honorable Mention Awards were Vanessa Arenas of Bolingbrook for "Cierra Los Ojos, La Bruja Ha Llegado," oil on wood (skateboard), Briana Barth of Bourbonnais for "Commission," oil on canvas, Ellen Kientop of Joliet for "Charmion," oil on canvas, Kaitlyn Ramsey of Burbank for "Little Flower," oil on canvas, Eli Samoska of Oak Forest for "Tara," oil on canvas, Elisabeth Sommerville of Plano for "Sky," acrylic, Hanna Swanberg of Plainfield for "Old Friends," acrylic and paper on canvas, and Julianna Walen of Bolingbrook for "Abyss," fluid acrylics.

Other participants include Lizet Audelo of Romeoville, Skylar Christensen of Lockport, Kayla Feigl of Shorewood, Audrey Folk of Plainfield, Ariana Guerrero of Romeoville, Jessica Karlic of Mokena, Brianna Knutsen of Plainfield, Des Loucado of Beecher, Taylor Mankin of Crestwood, Betsaira Cadena Noguez of Bolingbrook, Denise Ornelas of Joliet, Casey Rodriguez of Midlothian, Allison Shanholtzer of Joliet and Joseph Weber of Aurora.

Several alumni also have artwork on display in the show including Rebecca Banasiak of Chicago, Larissa Barnat of Burbank, Austin Matz of Wheaton, Angela Morris of Lynwood, Dave Pomatto of Naperville and Mark Swain of Plainfield.

The Wadsworth Family Gallery is located in the Oremus Fine Arts Center at Lewis University. The Department of Art and Design manages the gallery events, which include Lewis University student shows, local and regional artist shows, annual high school exhibits, faculty shows, academic based exhibitions and cultural and religious based art shows.
