Chicago Cubs’ Chris Singleton to Speak on Overcoming Adversity February 12

Published: January 30, 2019.

“Racism, Recovery, Resilience: Overcoming the Unthinkable Adversity” will be presented by inspirational speaker Chris Singleton, professional baseball player in the Chicago Cubs organization, at 5 p.m. Feb. 12 in the University Dining Room on Lewis University’s campus in Romeoville. This event is free and open to the public.

Singleton inspires others with his forgiveness of the man who murdered his mother, Sharonda Coleman Singleton. In 2015, she was murdered along with eight other victims at Mother Emanuel AME church in Downtown Charleston, South Carolina by a white supremacist.

This inspirational talk is being presented by Lewis University’s departments of Student Activities, Multicultural Student Services, University Ministry and Athletics. This event is part of Lewis University’s Black History Month series and Arts & Ideas Program, which provides cultural and educational programming for students and the community. A portion of the Arts & Ideas events is sponsored by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council. Contact for further information.
