Lewis Women's Volleyball Ranked No. 1 In Country In AVCA D2 Coaches Poll

Published: October 9, 2017.

The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced on Monday (Oct. 9) that the Lewis University women's volleyball team is the No. 1 ranked team in the latest AVCA Division II Coaches Poll.

This is the first time in school history that the Flyers sit atop the AVCA poll. Lewis received 22 out of a possible 48 votes.

The Flyers (17-1, 9-0 GLVC) have won their last 12 matches and their only loss this season is to No. 3 Concordia-St. Paul. Dating back to the 2016 season, Lewis has won 30 out of its last 33 matches for a .909 winning percentage.

"It's a wonderful accomplishment," Lewis head women's volleyball coach Lorelee Smith said of the No. 1 ranking. "We're playing some good, solid volleyball right now, but we have plenty of work ahead of us this season."

Lewis will be put to the test right away, as the Flyers head to Aurora, Ill., for the 10th Annual Midwest Region Crossover Tournament at the Great Lakes Center. The Flyers open with Findlay at 11:30 AM on Friday (Oct. 13).
