Illinois Funds MAP Grants with Approved State Budget

Published: July 7, 2017.

The Illinois state budget has been approved and full payment of funds for the 2016-17 and 2017-18 Monetary Award Program (MAP) will be made to higher education institutions in Illinois.

“Lewis University is thrilled with the state’s decision to fully fund the MAP commitments that they made to Illinois students for last academic year and this upcoming one,” commented Dr. David Livingston, President of Lewis University.

Lewis University students scheduled to receive the MAP Grant will now have their accounts fully credited. The state had promised about $6 million in MAP funding to students for the 2016-2017 academic year.

This is such important news because the investment in a college education is one of the most important we can make as a society. College graduates achieve lifetime earnings of over $1 million more than high school graduates, are less vulnerable to unemployment, are more active in their communities and report overall higher levels of life satisfaction. In addition, the jobs of today and the future increasingly will require a bachelor’s degree to obtain.

“We recognize there is still much to be done to address all of Illinois’s budget challenges but are pleased that college students, who are working hard to achieve their goals, will continue to be supported,” added Livingston.

Lewis University is an innovative and entrepreneurial Catholic university offering market-relevant undergraduate and graduate programs to 6,500 students. Sponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, Lewis University is nationally recognized for preparing intellectually engaged, ethically grounded, globally connected and socially responsible graduates.
