Record attendance at Chicago Area Business Aviation Association event at Lewis University

Published: October 4, 2012.

Congressman Dan Lipinski (D-IL), representative of the 3rd District of Illinois, gave an update on progress in Washington, D.C. over the past year and the challenges ahead for aviation during his keynote address at the Chicago Area Business Aviation Association meeting and mentoring session Sept. 28 at Lewis University’s Main Campus in Romeoville.

“Compromise is always essential to getting anything done,” said Lipinksi to the crowd of more than 400 students, faculty, staff and aviation industry professionals. The most senior Chicago-area member of the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee encouraged the crowd to contact their representatives to ensure that their voice is heard by legislators, who will be deciding on funding for runway improvements, European Union Emissions Trading Scheme ramifications and budget cuts.

CABAA is a grassroots organization formed by business aviation professionals for the purpose of offering members information, training, and networking experiences to enhance the quality and quantity of business aviation operations in the Chicago area. CABAA has been supportive of future aviation business professionals though various scholarship opportunities. Most recently, CABAA awarded nine Lewis University aviation students more than $50,000 in scholarships this year.

“We look forward to this opportunity every year as we connect our students with aviation professionals that share their accomplishments and provide valuable insights on how students can achieve their own success,” said Bill Brogan, chair of Aviation and Transportation Studies at Lewis University.

A brief alumni event was held afterward. Lewis University has the oldest aviation program among universities in Illinois. It is the only aviation program in the state that has an airport on campus. Lewis University offers undergraduate degrees in Aviation Administration, Aviation Maintenance Management, Air Traffic Control Management, Aviation Security and Aviation Flight Management.
