Angelica Del Pilar Honored with Father Colgan Award for Community Activism

Lewis University student Angelica Del Pilar, received the Father Aquinas Colgan Award during the university’s undergraduate Commencement Ceremony held Sunday, May 20 at the Romeoville Main Campus.

This special recognition is awarded to a graduating senior at each of the university’s undergraduate Commencement Ceremonies held in May and December. It is the oldest recognition in university history.

Del Pilar earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Peace Studies. The social justice advocate said, “Lewis instilled in me the drive to build meaningful relationships and contribute to my community. I now feel called to work in the non-profit area.”

During her studies at Lewis University, the Fairmont Food Pantry volunteer served as secretary for Psi Chi, International Psychology Honor Society, as well as a member of the Lewis University chapter of the Theology and Religious Studies Honor Society, Alex’s Lemonade Stand and Commuter Council.

Students are nominated for the Father Aquinas Colgan Award by university faculty and staff. To be eligible for nomination, a student must be an undergraduate who has qualified for graduation, who is a four-year student of Lewis University with a minimum GPA of 3.0, and who has demonstrated exemplary personal, intellectual and social development in the spirit of Lewis University’s Mission.
