Lewis Students Compete in Model United Nations Conference

Published: January 12, 2018.

Twelve Lewis University students participated in the American Model United Nations Conference in November 2017 in Chicago. American Model United Nations (AMUN) is a non-profit, educational organization that provides students with a simulation of the United Nations.

It was the second year Lewis University sent a delegation to participate in the three-day competition that increases international understanding and develops the art of peaceful negotiation among potential national and international leaders.

The Lewis University delegation represents a particular country, after having rigorously studied the politics of that country in Lewis University’s Model UN course. This year, the Political Science students represented the country of El Salvador and had success in getting some resolutions on the floor of the delegates’ respective committees

Participating Lewis University students include Ra’Naa Iqbal of Bolingbrook, Rafael Marzo of Woodridge, Jordan Cuthbert of New Lenox, Sarah Pajeau of Tinley Park, Christopher LaRock of Lockport, Deysi Rodriquez of Wheeling, Bartosz Morawski of Palos Hills, Paul Crafton of Bolingbrook, Sandra Ayala of Joliet, Michael DeBow of Shorewood, Gabriel Davalos of Lockport, and Alexander Carson of Bensenville.

The students voted to represent Ukraine next year and look forward to incorporating new ideas into the next competition.
