Frequently Asked Questions for COVID-19 Updates

In the coming weeks, you will be receiving additional updates. We will continue to follow state and local guidelines as the health, safety, and wellbeing of our community is our highest priority.

Questions Regarding Health and Safety of All Persons on Campus

  • All people coming to campus will be required to follow  safety protocols using face coverings and social distancing.
  • Business hours will be staggered and class schedules modified.
  • Increased disinfection and cleaning will be performed. 
  • Testing and contact tracing will be performed as available. 
  • A COVID-19 Hotline has been established by phone at (815)588-7000 or by email at covidhotline@lewisu.edu for anyone who has been exposed, or who has a positive Covid-19 test. Guidelines will be issued on a case by case basis.
  • Faculty and staff who are experiencing symptoms or who must quarantine should notify their supervisor.
  • Students who are experiencing symptoms or who must quarantine should notify their instructors for academic support.

Questions Regarding Attending Classes

  • We are committed to offering in person, face to face classes, as well as hybrid models and online formats.
  • The spring 2021 semester has been modified as follows:
    • Spring 2021 Academic Calendar
    • University Reopens – Monday, January 4
    • Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday – Monday, January 18
    • First Day of Class – Tuesday, January 19
    • Midterm Break – Thursday, Friday, March 11, 12
    • Easter Holiday Break – Thursday – Monday, April 1- 5
    • Final Day of Classes – Saturday, May 1
    • Final Exams – Monday – Saturday, May 3 – 8
    • Commencement Weekend – Saturday, Sunday, May 8, 9

Questions Regarding Academic Support Resources and Availability

  • Many academic support services will be offered by phone, e-mail, or video conference.
    • Online Peer-to-Peer Tutoring, Academic Coaching, Mentoring, Advising and General Support.
  • Blackboard training videos and live support sessions are available for students and faculty.
  • Online testing accommodations, alternative format course materials and ongoing accommodation consultations are available for students with disabilities.
  • The Writing Center offers online peer writing tutoring and, when possible, face-to-face support. To schedule a face-to-face, real time phone, or joint Writing Center Tutor and Research Librarian appointment please visit lewisu.edu/appointment
  • The Library will offer online chat, online research consultations, physical material borrowing, and a Technology Loan Program. More details will come on re-opening of the library space.
