Parking Permits - Student ID Cards – Services and Locations
1. Where is the Lewis University Police Department Located?
  • The main office is located in the lower level of the Student Union. Our hours for the office are 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  • All office services remain available outside of office hours. (permits / IDs)
  • The Information Center at the entrance to the campus is open 24 hours a day.
  • Our non-emergency number is (815) 836-5222 or Ext 5222 and our Emergency phone number is (815) 836-5911 or Ext. 5911.
2. I have a parking permit from last year; do I need to get a new one?
  • Parking Permits remain active until you deactivate them. You would only need a new permit if you have a different vehicle or you changed your status on campus (example: Resident last year, commuter this year).
3. What are the costs for parking permits?
  • Undergraduate students will be charged a $80 parking fee per semester.
  • At this time the University has determined that the parking fee will be waived for graduate students and accelerated students.
  • All vehicles must be registered and have a permit posted at all times.
4. I recently had knee surgery; can I get a temporary handicapped permit from University Police?
  • If you and your doctor feel that temporary handicapped access is needed, you can apply for a placard through the State of Illinois at www.cyberdriveillinois.com.
5. I am a commuter student and had trouble finding parking, where can I park when Lots C and G are full?
  • There are typically open parking spaces in parking Lots GG (west of the Student Recreation and Fitness Center), parking Lot NN (south of lot GG), Lot ZZ (south of Dorothy Day Hall) and Lot Z (south of Pope John Paul II Hall).
6. My car did not start this morning and I will be bringing a car that is not registered. What should I do so that I do not get a ticket?
  • Temporary permits are issued from the Communication Center.
  • Temporary permits may be issued up to 3 times each semester and they are good for up to 1 week.
7. I have been told that Graduate students do not need parking passes because they only take classes at night; is this true?
  • No, all students who park at the Romeoville Campus must register their vehicles with the University Police Department and place a parking permit on their vehicle.
8. I work full time and cannot get to the University until after business hours; how can I get a parking permit and student Id?
  • The Communications Center at the front of campus is open 24 hours a day. Parking permits can be issued at that location.
  • If you do not have a student ID, the main office in the Student Union is open until 5:00 p.m. However, if you come to campus after 5:00 p.m. or on the weekend, notify the officer working the Communications Center and they will dispatch an officer to open the office and issue a student ID.
9. Over the summer, I parked my car near the College of Business but when school started, I received a ticket for that parking lot; why?
  • Over the summer, parking lot restrictions are not enforced (other than violations of the law) due to the limited number of students actually on campus.
  • Once the fall / spring semesters begin, those regulations take effect and are enforced. Each semester, you should check the Security webpage for any parking lot changes or restrictions.
10. It seems that there are fewer vehicles on campus on the weekends. I have been told that I can park anywhere; is that true?
  • Yes, beginning on Fridays at 6:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, lot restrictions are waived; all vehicles are still required to have a permit.
11. What do I need to get a parking permit?
