Bio:
Ian Gladding is Professor of International Business and Director of International Business Program that he created and launched in 2003. Dr Gladding has been on the faculty since 1999 and teaches business administration and international business courses.
Teaching and research interests: Business Administration, International Business, Asian Business, Entrepreneurship, International Political Economy, China (Business, Economics, Politics.)
Accomplishments at Lewis University: As Director of University International Initiatives (1999-2007); raised $100,000 for International Business program, organized teaching program in China for seven College of Business faculty; organized seven travel study programs to China and Europe; chaired interdisciplinary committee that developed/launched Contemporary Global Studies and international Business majors (2002); served on committee that launched Lewis Language Program (2005); developed Asian Business Studies minor (2007); Regular contributor to Arts Ideas programs, faculty colloquia, committees.
Academic awards: Fulbright Scholar (China 2002-3) Br. Louis Seilor Teaching Award (2007-9).
Academic experience prior to joining Lewis: Held full time teaching and research positions at the Asia Research Center, Copenhagen Business School (Denmark), Asian Institute, University of Copenhagen (Denmark), College of Business, Sun Yat Sen University (China), International Politics and Economics Program, East-West Center (Hawaii), and Chaminade University (Hawaii). As Fulbright scholar, made presentation at symposia in China at Dalien University, Beijing Institute of Foreign Trade, Guangzhou University of Foreign Trade, Beijing University of Foreign Studies and in Japan at the Ruyuku School of Economics and the Osaka University of Economics.
Business, government, non-profit, and military experience: Business: 15 years in senior international management positions including 8 years as CEO of international marketing companies in Singapore and Hong Kong; Government: Director, International Marketing Bureau, Iowa Department of Economic Development; Non-Profit: Director International Network on Trade (Iowa). Military: served 4 years in the US Army Security Agency as Korean translator and crypto-linguist (Military Intelligence-cryptologic). 10 years’ experience living and working in China, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, and Denmark.
