Meet an Alumni and Faculty Member from the COB – Mike Swanberg

Jan 23rd, 2012 | By | Category: FACULTY

One of the nicest things about teaching adults is the wealth of knowledge and diversity that the students bring to the classroom. I feel it’s my role to create a bridge between the text and the real world through my own experiences. It’s important to create a classroom environment that respects an individual’s right to express, test and refine their views against the views of their classmates. I try very hard not to push my opinions onto the students rather I work at getting them to look at things from multiple perspectives. Being a resource to your students is more than providing your contact information it’s letting them know you welcome the opportunity to help them succeed in business, the classroom and in life.

Mike Swanberg is the CEO of MTH Industries, a hundred plus year old Chicago Construction Company, whose recent accomplishments include the “Ledge”, the glass observation boxes at Willis Tower and “Cloud Gate” also known as the “Bean” the stainless steel sculpture designed by British artist Anish Kapoor. Mike’s a trustee for Ironworker Union Local 63 Pension and Health and Welfare Funds, a member of the Executive Advisory Board to the College of Business and an advisory board member to the Lowell Stahl Center for Real Estate Studies at Lewis University. Mike received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and his Master of Business Administration both from Lewis University.
