Madeline Murphy (Marketing Course Instructor)

Understanding the adult student is an important aspect of teaching at Lewis. Throughout my many years of teaching at Lewis, I believe that my approach to teaching takes this understanding into consideration. I know that adult learners begin college courses with more fears and concerns, but they also have more relative experience than that of the younger student. Taking this all into consideration, I develop a collaborative environment in the classroom which allows students to better identify with the course material and share their experiences of the business world. My students are encouraged to put the pen down and participate, allowing a deeper understanding of the material in real world terms and examples. I teach by sharing my many years of business experience and bringing the real world to life. For me, the textbook is my guide but the experience, participation, projects and discussion are the necessary tools to engage students.

I received a B.S. in Business at Eastern Illinois University with a minor in Psychology. I graduated with my MBA with an emphasis in Integrated Marketing Communications at Roosevelt University.

I have held many positions within marketing since graduating rom college. Marketing has always been a passion of mine. My focus has been in the pharmaceutical and financial industries; however I have worked within many other sectors throughout my career. From development of multi-layered strategies to execution of these strategies, I have worked within the many facets of the marketing world. Advertising, sales, PR, electronic media, database marketing and event planning are just some of the disciplines I’ve experienced throughout the years. I’ve worked with large blue chip organizations as well as with startup companies and everything in between. My experiences have allowed me to constantly grow and learn new things. I believe that my professional experiences have given me the tools to help adult students experience the marketing world from various perspectives.  Madeline Murphy
