Learning Styles Assessment Center (LSAC)

The purpose of the Learning Styles Assessment Center (LSAC) is to help students who enter Lewis with documentation of a learning disability, or who have never been diagnosed with a learning disability, but are struggling academically.  Learning Styles Assessment CenterWe also can help any student to identify his or her learning style in order to increase the probability of success while at Lewis.

Services offered by the Learning Styles Assessment Center include diagnostic evaluations of learning disorders and learning styles, memory problems, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and emotional disorders; referrals for tutoring, counseling, and accommodations as needed; and educational workshops on topics related to learning.

We appreciate faculty for providing the accommodations that these students need to increase their ability to succeed.  However, faculty should be aware of students who appear to be struggling, but are NOT receiving accommodations. Some of the warning signs may include:

  1. Difficulty in reading, writing, spelling, and/or using math concepts.
  2. Poor handwriting.
  3. Inability to stick to schedules, repeatedly forgetting things, losing or leaving possessions, and seeming disorganized.
  4. Difficulty understanding or following directions.
  5. Easily distracted.

Faculty who observe behaviors in a student that may be consistent with a learning disability should communicate with that student about what has been observed and call or e-mail Dr. Ann Barich, Professor of Psychology and Director of the Learning Styles Assessment Center (Ext. 5362, barichan@lewisu.edu), or Denise Rich, Academic Skills Coordinator at LARC (Ext. 5284, richde@lewisu.edu).
