Former Lewis Baseball standout Andrew Brauer inks contract with Joliet Slammers
Published: August 27, 2012.

The Joliet Slammers have signed former Lewis University baseball standout Andrew Brauer (Bolingbrook, Ill./Montini/College of DuPage), making him the 69th Flyer student-athlete to sign a professional contract in school-history.

Brauer played just two seasons under Flyer head baseball coach Tim McDonough, but the Bolingbrook, Ill., native left his mark. The two-time, All-Great Lakes Valley Conference selection finished his career with a .343 batting average, 123 hits, 34 stolen bases, 21 doubles, 10 home runs and 80 RBI in 97 games.

As a junior, Brauer was named to the ABCA All-Midwest Region Second Team after leading the Flyers in batting average (.353), RBI (36) and total bases (76). Last season, he played a key role in helping Lewis to its first NCAA Regional berth since 1996, batting .335 with six home runs and a team-best 44 RBI.

"I am extremely excited for Andrew and am confident he will do well in professional baseball," McDonough said. "Andrew the has tools and skill, but he is a perfect example of the saying: "Hard work pays off'.

"He was one of hardest working players I have ever coached and it is great to see someone like that make it to the next level and get rewarded for all of the hours he put in," McDonough continued. "The Slammers are a great organization and have terrific coaches, so it is a great fit for Andrew."

Brauer has appeared in seven games for the Slammers and has a .217 batting average and two RBI.
