Lewis Men's Tennis claims ITA All-Academic Team accolades

Published: July 14, 2014.

The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced that the Lewis University men's tennis team has claimed the ITA All-Academic Team award, given to squads with a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or above for the 2013-14 school year. The Flyers checked in with a 3.51 GPA.

Helping the Flyers achieve this status was the scholastic performances of juniors Erik Aunapuu (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) and Armand Levandi (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) along with freshman Tom Logan (Kenmore, Wash./Bishop Blanchet) - all of whom were named as ITA Scholar-Athletes.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman through senior year).

Aunapuu, who was an All-Great Lakes Valley Conference selection for the third-straight season, picked up a 3.8 cumulative GPA in international business in 2013-14. Levandi, the 2014 GLVC Player of the Year, ITA All-American and GLVC Spring Scholar-Athlete of the Year, had a 3.72 cumulative GPA in business administration. Logan had a 3.78 cumulative GPA in aviation administration.

"I'm very proud of the men's efforts during a challenging season to stay committed to excellence in the classroom," Lewis head men's tennis coach Brett Bridel said.
