Dr. Frank Rose, professor of finance, led a group of students on a study trip to the CME Group and one of its member firms to speak with alumni who are now working in the financial sector and learn more about what career opportunities it holds.
Twelve undergraduate and graduate students from Dr. Rose's derivatives courses were able to visit and learn about the trading of commodities and the behind the scenes operations of the financial sector. They met with alumni Shane Burke, Lead GCC Analyst at the CME Group and Dan Lewis, trader at the Transmarket Group.
“I had an absolute blast,” said Mike Trizna, student attendee of the trip. “It’s also great to see Lewis students achieving success in the world of finance with such a competitive job market.”

In their courses, Lewis University undergraduate and graduate finance students learn how Chicago's derivatives markets work and how futures and options products are used for investment and risk management purposes. Students engage in trading simulations to enhance their understanding of the markets. Lewis alumni who work in Chicago's financial markets are frequent guest speakers. Lewis University undergraduate and graduate finance students learn to leverage data and information to make strategic financial decisions; explore interdisciplinary topics in economics and accounting; develop a broad macroeconomic understanding of the global forces impacting finance; gain expertise in advanced theory with project-based coursework; and utilize computer modeling to analyze real-world financial situations.
