The Aurora Foundation recently awarded Lewis University a $5,000 grant to assist veterans. The funds were awarded for the creation and sustainment of the Lewis University Veterans Ally Program, which will create a better method of identifying the network of resources for military, veterans and their families.
“This grant enables us to formalize the networking opportunities available to veterans on the Lewis University campus,” Roman Ortega, director of Lewis University Veteran Affairs, commented. Veteran support from Lewis University directly benefits more than 550 veterans, service members, dependents and survivors currently enrolled in Lewis University.
The grant will be used to fund five semesters of the Veterans Ally Program which will provide service members and veterans access to a visible network of allies committed to serving the needs of student veterans and furnish opportunities for the Lewis community to demonstrate support for student veterans. The program will benefit future student veterans by training faculty and administrators who can offer reliable, knowledgeable, and compassionate information and assistance to facilitate a successful transition from service to classroom to career.
The Aurora Foundation assists colleges and universities to help veterans who enter the scholastic environment graduate from college and enter the workforce, calling this transition “Boots to Books to Business.” The programs and partnerships are all structured under each phase of this transition, working with others who support our military men and women in uniform as well as those in higher education who are dedicated to providing a veteran-friendly campus with resources that enable veteran students to succeed.
