Lewis University student Emily Keene of Hebron, Ind., was recently honored by The Lincoln Academy of Illinois at the Old State Capitol in Springfield, Ill.
The Lincoln Academy’s Student Laureate Awards are presented for excellence in curricular and extracurricular activities to seniors from each four-year, degree granting colleges and universities in Illinois. Keene received a Student Laureate Medallion, an honorarium check and certificate of achievement.
“This achievement means a lot to me. It means that the things I participated in on a daily basis, from my studies to extracurricular activities, are ultimately noteworthy and significant enough to be recognized. It is every college student's goal to make the most of their college experience and I think this achievement is a symbol of what I have made of my experience here at Lewis,” commented Keene.
A leader among her peers, Keene has been actively involved in many organizations at Lewis University. As a member of Delta Sigma Pi, the national fraternity for business students and professionals, she has served as vice-president of community service and vice-president of pledge education. She currently serves as senior vice-president. Keene was also a hammer thrower in the Women’s Track & Field Team and treasurer, secretary, and president of Art Club. She was recently inducted into Delta Epsilon Sigma, a national scholastic honor society for students, faculty and alumni of Catholic universities and colleges.
“Lewis has helped me developed in so many ways. My peers have helped me develop into a stronger person with every conversation we have and I have also been challenged by my academics. All the challenges I have encountered have helped shape me,” said Keene.
Keene will be graduating in May 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. She plans to work in the sales or marketing field after graduation.
