The Lewis University College of Nursing and Health Professions recently received a $5,500 grant from Johnson & Johnson’s Campaign for Nursing’s Future initiative to develop an informative series that addresses critical issues for students with a previous bachelor's degree returning to obtain a bachelor of nursing science degree enrolled in the largest undergraduate nursing program in Illinois.
“We’re delighted to receive support from the Campaign for Nursing’s Future as we enhance our education for our students,” commented Dr. Peggy Rice, dean of College of Nursing and Health Professions.
The series will feature presentations by successful alumni of the BAC-BSN program and other nursing professionals, especially those from underrepresented and/or disadvantaged backgrounds, and workshops on transitioning into a new career in nursing, seeking and benefiting from academic support services as well as addressing financial and other life challenges that may hinder success.
Jane Trainor, coordinator of the BAC/BSN licensure track explained the grant will sponsor a variety of activities. It will assist in the development and distribution of recruitment materials, including information on financial aid opportunities. It will support a series of informative workshops for potential and enrolled BAC-BSN students. It will also assist with financing target networking events that are expected to develop and foster mentoring relationship and social support between Lewis BAC-BSN alumni, other nursing professionals and current BAC-BSN students.
The Campaign for Nursing’s Future is a resource for potential students, current students, and nursing schools. More information is available at the Johnson and Johnson Web site, www.discovernursing.com.
A Catholic university sponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, Lewis offers nearly 80 undergraduate majors and programs of study, accelerated degree completion options for working adults, various aviation programs and 22 graduate programs in nine fields.
