Lewis University hopes to raise both awareness and funds through an Art for Good/Empty Bowls project, being held from 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 4 in the University Dining Room at Lewis University in Romeoville. The public is invited to donate $10 for soup and a painted bowl. The bowls were painted by members of the Lewis community throughout the summer as well as fall, during several events, such as Homecoming.
All proceeds will go to Morning Star Mission, Daybreak Homeless Shelter and University Ministry. The goal is raise $2,000 for the agencies and the outreach ministries of Lewis’ University Ministry.
During the event, a multimedia presentation will focus specifically on the current world hunger crisis and more broadly on how art is used to raise awareness of and funds for social causes. Presenters will include speakers from Daybreak and Morning Star Mission as well as Lewis faculty and staff.
The event is part of Hunger Week at Lewis. The annual outreach event is being held Nov. 1-7. It raises awareness about global poverty, hunger and homelessness. It also raises funds to support Lewis volunteers serving locally, nationally and abroad.
Lewis University’s Art Department, University Ministry, Student Development & Leadership and Sodexho are sponsoring this event. For additional information, please contact Leslie Colonna at (815) 836-5532 or colonnle@lewisu.edu.
