College of Business Receives Certification from Project Management Institute
Published: April 2, 2008.

The College of Business was recently certified by the Project Management Institute (PMI®) as a Registered Education Provider (REP). With this certification, Lewis joins one of only seven universities in Illinois certified to prepare students for PMI®’s Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

Currently the College of Business offers a concentration in project management in both the MBA and the Bachelors of Arts in Management degrees. The College also offers a seminar-based Certificate of Project Management. With this certification, all project management courses and seminars offered by the COB are now pre-approved as Professional Development Units for PMP certification.

Being certified in the REP Program is expected to enhance the marketability of the College of Business’ project management programs, especially among working adults, according to Michael Cherry, Academic Coordinator of Adult Business Programs.

“Project management certification is becoming a key requirement for many of today’s careers in business,” said Cherry. “By utilizing PMI’s resources and their guidance, we can ensure that our students will be able to meet these job qualifications.”

The Project Management Institute (PMI®) is the world’s leading association for the project management profession. Currently, there are over 700 organizations from 55 countries in PMI®’s registry. Other universities in Illinois that are members of the REP program include the University of Chicago, Northwestern University, and the University of Illinois.

“Because PMI is the leading project management organization, this certification really speaks to the educational quality of our programs,” said Dr. Rami Khasawneh, Dean and Professor of the College of Business.
