Lewis Athletics Welcomes All-Decades (2000s) Men's Basketball Team

The Lewis University Athletics Department will introduce the All-Decades (2000s) Men's Basketball Team on Saturday (Jan. 20) at halftime of the Flyers' game against William Jewell (3 PM).

The team includes Sammy Bacino, Stephan Bolt, Brandon Dagans, Jason Genova, Sidney Holmes, Demitrius Hunter, Monta McGhee, Austin Real, Anthony Scala, Stan Strong and Dennis Thomas, Jr.

"The Lewis men's basketball team has had a rich tradition," Lewis Director of Athletics Dr. John Planek said. "Bringing these men back to campus recognizes their contributions to the program."

This is the fifth consecutive year that Lewis has celebrated an All-Decades Team, as they have feted the Flyer standouts from the 1950s and 60s (2014), 1970s (2015), 1980s (2016) and 1990s (2017).

Sammy Bacino (2000-02) Bacino played a key role on the 2002 Sweet 16 squad. That season he earned All-Region honors, as well as being named to the All-Great Lakes Valley Conference First Team and the GLVC All-Tournament Team.

Stephan Bolt (2005-08) An All-Region selection in 2008, Bolt holds the career rebounds per game record, averaging 9.6 per game. Bolt sits in 25th place in program history with 1,181 points. He made the GLVC All-Tournament Team in 2008 and was Honorable Mention All-GLVC in 2007. He is second in program history in the Division II era with 799 career rebounds.

Brandon Dagans (2005-09) Among the awards for Dagans over his career include being a NABC All-American in 2009, a two-time All-Region member (2007, '09), All-GLVC First Team in 2007 and 2009 and All-GLVC Third Team in 2008. He is sixth all-time with 1,691 career points, averaging 15.8 points per game over his career. He is third in free throws made (453), sixth in assists (331), ninth in steals (136) and ninth in three-pointers made (142).

Jason Genova (2006-09) Genova is the leading three-point shooter in school history, draining 234 career three-pointers. He made the All-GLVC Third Team in 2008 and '09 and was named to the GLVC All-Tournament Team in 2008. He is 12th in school history with 1,393 points and his career average of 16.2 points per game is seventh in the Division-II era.

Sidney Holmes (2002-04) Holmes ranks second in the Division-II era, averaging 8.7 rebounds per game for Lewis. He has the sixth (263, 2003) and eighth (258, 2004) most rebounds in a single season and was a member of a pair of NCAA Tournament teams.

Demitrius Hunter (2000-04) An All-Region selection an All-GLVC First Team member in 2004, Hunter also was Honorable Mention All-GLVC and named to the GLVC All-Tournament Team in 2003. He is the program leader with 528 career assists and is second with 170 steals. His 1,127 career points rank him 30th in program history. He is second all-time in games played with 121.

Monta McGhee (2002-04) A 2016 inductee into the Lewis Hall of Fame, McGhee is second in school history in the Division-II era with 17.7 points per game average. He also is third in school history with 8.5 rebounds per game average. He was an NABC All-American and the GLVC Player of the Year in 2004. In both seasons at Lewis, he was a GLVC First Team selection, he was named to the GLVC All-Tournament team and was an All-Region selection.

Austin Real (2000-04) Real has the second most blocks in program history with 140 and is seventh in free throws made with 301. He is 14th in school history with 1,334 points. He was the GLVC Freshman of the Year in 2001, was Honorable Mention All-GLVC in 2002 and 2003 and was the GLVC Tournament MVP in 2002.

Anthony Scala (2001-05) Scala holds the record for most three-pointers made in a season with 85 in 2005. He is eighth all-time in three-pointers with 143. He made the GLVC All-Tournament Team in 2004 and was Honorable Mention All-GLVC in 2005.

Stan Strong (1999-2003) An Honorable Mention All-GLVC selection in 2003, Strong played a key role in the 2002 Sweet 16 club. He is ninth in school history with 142 three-pointers.

Dennis Thomas, Jr. (2007-11) Thomas, an All-GLVC Second Team selection in 2011, is in the top 10 in several all-time categories. He is 10th in scoring (1,446 points), third in assists (350), fourth in three-pointers made (165), sixth in free throws made (311) and 10th in steals (131).
