"I have enjoyed the bachelor’s program here at Lewis and will be entering the master’s program in Spring 2014. I immigrated to the U.S. when I was 6 years old and had a tough time getting through school. I completed high school at home on my own with no help other than mail correspondence from teachers. At the same time I married and had two young boys and worked full-time. Then I began college, the first in my family to enroll. I completed an associate’s and my bachelor’s degree, while I worked full-time and raised three children. I am the very first in my family, both mom and dad’s side, to go to college and graduate."
"Going back to school to complete my degree has given me the greatest personal satisfaction. I do this to show my children and grandchildren that it’s never too late to accomplish your goals in life. I have had a full life having served in the Air Force, as a Chicago police officer and as a warden in my Church. Being at Lewis University has been a pleasure and I’m counting on becoming an alumnus of Lewis and with hard work and dedication it will happen."
"Lewis was a great fit for where I was in my life. Being with adults who all understood the importance of getting your education - all understood the importance of having limited time - it really created this sense of community of 'we're all in this together, and we're trying to make it work'."
"It was close to home. It was convenient - Lewis gave me the biggest amount of flexibility to work with the schedule that I had. There's no doubt in my mind that the education I've gotten - is the thing that has really put me in the arena to be eligible for a job like this."
