Highlights

• Interested in teaching? Lewis' Department of Chemistry offers a teacher certification program that's fully approved by the State Teacher Certification Board, along with the Illinois State Board of Education. To enroll, chemistry majors must declare a minor in Secondary Education. Upon graduation, they will be prepared to teach grades 6-12 in Illinois public and private schools.
  
  
• Lewis' student chapter of the national chemistry honors organization, Gamma Sigma Epsilon, provides opportunities for high-achieving students to enjoy science activities and make professional contacts.
  
  
  
• The Department of Chemistry also offers a concentration in forensic chemistry. This area of focus prepares students for careers in forensic science, investigating crime from the laboratory. With the growing prominence of this field, forensic chemistry offers a promising career path.
