SECONDARY EDUCATION IN SCIENCE WITH CHEMISTRY DESIGNATION
Secondary Education Teaching Certification (Grades 6-12)
In conjunction with the College of Education, the Chemistry Department features a fully approved Chemistry program, which prepares candidates to teach in grades 6-12 in public and private schools in the State of Illinois. The program is approved by the State Teacher Certification Board in conjunction with the Illinois State Board of Education, and includes all the requirements for a major in Chemistry. Chemistry majors will declare a minor in Secondary Education and should consult with advisors in both the Biology Department and the College of Education. The requirements for secondary certification in Chemistry include the requirements of the B.A. program, as well as: Analytical Chemistry and lab or Instrumental Chemistry and lab, and Physical Chemistry I and lab or Physical Chemistry II and lab, and Biochemistry I and lab or Biochemistry II and lab. For certification, the student must have a minimum of 32 hours in Chemistry and a second teaching field.
