Health ProfessionsDemand for a variety of health professions is on the rise due to advances in technology and scientific research. These professionals play crucial roles in aiding in the diagnosis and treatment of illnesses. Biology, B.S.Lewis University offers students a wide range of pre-professional tracks within the Biology major. While it is true that the student may take any undergraduate major and still apply to any health profession program, the student should realize that ALL programs require a very specific set of pre-requisite courses in the Natural Sciences. Specifically, pre-requisite courses almost universally include one year of Biology (with labs), one year of Inorganic Chemistry (with labs), one year of Physics (with labs), one year of Organic Chemistry (with labs), and math through Calculus I. Furthermore, students are often “suggested” to take advanced coursework, such as Microbiology or Biochemistry, to strengthen their applications. It is fairly evident that, since all of these courses are embedded within the Biology curriculum, most students wishing to pursue advanced degrees in the health professions will major in Biology at the undergraduate level.
